These programmes prepare students for employment as mechanical engineering technicians.
Mechanical engineering technicians typically assist mechanical engineers with the design, development, production, testing, operation and maintenance of mechanical equipment, industrial machinery and consumer products. Like mechanical engineers, mechanical engineering technicians are employed by many industries. Technicians may work on a range of equipment including car engines, elevators, air conditioners, power saws and nuclear reactors. Tasks performed may include producing detailed drawings and layouts of equipment or assembly processes, making calculations to estimate equipment life, equipment costs, plant space etc and testing and inspecting equipment.
